8 -18 YEAR-OLDS READ MORE BOOKS. A study released by the Kaiser Family Foundation www.kff.org found 8 -18 year-olds read more books in 2009 than the same age group in 1999. This demographic group spent an average of 21 minutes each day reading books in 1999. In 2004, the time increased to 23 minutes. The group continues to spend more time reading books, and in 2009 the time increased to 25 minutes. The study also found that the reading pleasure decreases as children get older.
